Any tips on how to possibly beat a speeding ticket given in Connecticut? I?
tommybasman@sbcglobal.net asked:
I was driving a company car and rushing to a job site with a problem on Sunday am on Rt.9. Was pulled over at 94 mph in a 65 mph. Was given a ticket for speeding at 85mph.I would gladly pay the money to a Victims’ fund or something, I just do not want this to go on my record in MVD. I could loose my job over this ticket. I do have a clean driving record as of now.How could get this not prosecuted? Is there a way to get this moved to a different Court(in a different town)? Here in Middletown they do not accept a charity payment instead of paying the fine, one town over(where I actually live) they do. Please help,I am desperate for an advice (I can’t afford a lawyer). Thank you,T.

traffic school? i know thats offered in indiana for your first offence, but if you go to court to argue the ticket, first look on the police sign-in list to see if the officer that pulled you over has signed in, because if he isnt there, then you automaticly win… secondly, if you go and argue, try to bring up things about the event to see if he even remembers your case, if he doesnt even rember you, how can they convict you? good luck

I would recommend looking up Connecticut’s defensive driving laws. I’m betting there is a reason the cop only marked you 20 miles over..(So you could actually take the class). If Connecticut’s laws are anything like Texas’s then it won’t go on your record.

I would just go back to the city where you got it at, and go to their court house and ask them if they can take care of it, and explain what happend, and alot of the time you will not even have to pay a thing, and you are even better if u tell them u will donate it.
P.S. if it ever happens again ask them to show you their thing that tells how fast you were going and alot of the time they wont have it and they will let you go.

There’s no way to move this moved to another court, but if you have a spotless record, you might try asking the cop to continue without a finding meaning the ticket won’t go on your record or offer to take a safe driving course.
However, at 85 mph I wouldn’t bet on that working. Best bet is to plead it down…maybe offer to plead to 74. Unless you company pulls your driving record, they won’t know you got the ticket…and it won’t show what car you got it in anyway.
It’s only a speeding ticket-not the end of the world.

I’ve been pulled over in the Middletown area. My suggestion is: PLEAD NOT GUILTY. You will have a court date issued in a few months (3 to 4), and you will have to take off a morning of work to go to court to take care of it.
You will have to go to a big filled with other offenders and wait. They will try to change your not-guilty to avoid a small trial once you are called up there in front of one of the traffic prosecuters. They will offer you a reduced fine and points.
Granted you are still guilty – but the fine is MUCH less and less damage to your driving record.
Works every time. Good Luck
PS- one other ‘unethical’ suggestion which a colleague just came up with: When you’re called up – fabricate a story to tell the traffic prosecuter that you had a screaming or sick kid in the back seat (as the reason why you were speeding). The cop never shows up to these things and even if they did – will not remember something like this 4 months later. It pulls on the emotional strings and is helpful to getting it all reduced.
