you are not required to take the job, also just because she won't take the settlement it don't mean you have to back out. I know it might cost more but that is what lawyers are for, if your settlement is far take her to court, she is just controlling you, She don't want to see you happy. Also a lot of apartments don't even do a credit background check. You will be surprised. I was divorced twice and had really bad credit and I got the first apartment I looked at. It is all about First, Last, and Security. Some times the company will not offer more, some problems you have to work out your self. Certain things I wouldn't even tell them. It is unprofessional of you to think that they are responsible for paying off your crazy ex-wife(lack of better term only). Handle some of these issues privately, also if it don't work out and you loose the job offer you will never know if you lost it because they didn't want you because you brought your personal problems into it. Remember these people are not your friends or family. They are people you work with. I went through my second divorce never telling anyone at my job and guess what, I got more raises that two years than any other time in my life. It makes you look bad if you cannot handle your personal life. The company may question their need of you.

Explain your situation to the property manager. Money talks. Offer him an extra-large deposit.
